Free Books for Kids
Many parents struggle to supply their children with high-quality educational reading material. While the local library can be a good resource, it can be difficult to select books that both challenge and entertain kids. This can be especially difficult for children who are bilingual or English language learners.
GLEN World is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with early English literacy via educational and accessible reading material. Our free books for kids, offered as part of our GLEN Books app, are specifically designed for English language learners. Our books are narrated in both Spanish and English and feature a variety of entertaining stories for children of many reading levels. These free books for kids are designed to target and enhance their English skills, allowing them to more easily read other books. Further, GLEN Books is designed to be used with or without supervision, making it an effective option for busy parents.
Kids don’t need to know how to read in order to enjoy our free books for kids. Our beautifully illustrated stories are narrated by our expert narrators, but the audio-synced text highlighting provides a constant invitation for kids to step into reading. Beginning readers can practice and develop their reading skills by turning off the narration. The auto-narration feature allows parents and caregivers to enjoy story-time with their kids regardless of their own level of literacy.

GLEN World has developed GLEN Learn, a research-based personalized learning app for early English literacy, designed to help children develop reading skills via a series of guided exercises, engaging stories, and rhymes. GLEN Learn's content design is based on Instructed Second Language Acquisition research, targeting the fundamental skills required for literacy: vocabulary knowledge, recognition of sounds, and recognition of spelling. GLEN Learn's learning modules reinforce each other as they target these fundamental skills.
Our team includes seasoned educators, authors, animators, established graphic artists, and engineers. A unique strength is our connection with two premier research universities, the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), with the close involvement of faculty with expertise spanning second language acquisition, education, cognition, engineering, and machine learning.
